Online Amateur Radio Community Events
Welcome to the Online Amateur Radio Community!
There are two ways you can enjoy our events. Members can take part in events on Zoom.
Our community is free to join, and is built on the community platform Discord. We offer a club without a committee, built and run by its members for its members. Rooms are open 24/7, we have specialist chat, training at all levels, and we are associated with the RSGB & provide their Brickworks scheme.
We host regular events, both social and structured on Zoom.
While we know that using a new platform like Discord can take some time to learn, we believe what we have is well worth it.

Topics will include: Beacons, ESP programming, programming with AI, prototyping, GPS data, GPS configuration, serial communication, ISM band radio modules, voltage boosters, ARDF

| 5th Sep 2026 | John Stringer M5JFS | Chasing Birds: The Addictive World of Amateur Radio Satellites | An introduction to the world of amateur radio satellite working. John will start with a brief potted history of how he got hooked on this aspect of the hobby, getting started with very modest and basic gear that he had to hand and how he later developed and improved his 'station' to where it is today as he grew in experience and interest. He'll then cover the types of satellites that are out there, the gear you need (or don't need) to work them, operating etiquette and best practices, useful software, tools and social networks, and finally he'll tell us about a few notable moments and achievements that he's have had in his 6 years on the birds. |

| 3rd Jan 2026 | Jonathan Naylor G4KLX | An Introduction to Moonbounce | At the extreme end of the hobby is Moonbounce, sometimes called EME for Earth-Moon-Earth. This is where every decibel matters and where DX flows even when the sun isn't jiggling the ionosphere. This presentation will explain the basics, and how we get over the path loss that occurs in transmissions that have to cover 750,000 kms and still be heard. |
| 7th Feb 2026 | Tom Wardill M9TWM | Beginning 3D Printing for Radio | Covering the basic of 'What is 3D printing?', 'What types of materials can I print?', 'What should I buy?', and 'Just how safe is this anyway?', Tom will cover a primer on the topic and hopefully inspire you to investigate why 3D printing is a perfect complement to your radio hobby. |
| 7th Mar 2026 | Mark Pentler 2M0IIG | An overview of aviation RF emissions | Enter the world of Aviation RF and discover the many and varied signals that aircraft emit. Learn about tracking planes over ADS-B, digging deeper into operations with ACARS reception, shooting for the niche world of satellite aviation comms, and - for the real nerds - the various navigation aids and other bleeps and bloops that help aircraft do their job. |
| 4th Apr 2026 | Derek Kozel MW0LNA | Beyond SWR: A Hands-On Introduction to VNAs, Impedance, and TDR | A Vector Network Analyzer lets you measure why a radio system behaves the way it does. This talk introduces vector network analysis through the problems you actually face at the bench and in the shack: locating discontinuities in coax, reading an antenna’s feedpoint impedance as a complex quantity, seeing what a matching network changes across frequency, and verifying filter performance with two-port measurements. Using a NanoVNA with NanoVNA-Saver and short Python examples, we’ll connect live measurements and saved S1P/S2P files to the underlying ideas - reflection, transmission, calibration, and time-domain transforms - so you leave with a repeatable workflow for making trustworthy RF measurements, including a practical look at small-signal measurements of a amplifier. |
| 2nd May 2026 | Ian Renton M0TRT | Everything on the Air: An Introduction to Operating in the Great Outdoors | If you're curious about getting started in portable operation, how to go about it, where to go, or even why you should try it at all, this talk is for you. Ian only got started working portable in 2024, but quickly caught the bug, and 100-or-so park activations later, he'll share what he's learned about rigs, antennas, batteries, and operating techniques. From tough mountain climbs to the park down the road, and even just operating from your car, portable operating has something for every level of fitness and appetite for adventure! |
| 6th June 2026 | Everyone! | OARC Flash Talks Night June 2026 | The first OARC Flash Talks night featured 5 talks on a variety of interesting and quirky subjects! Full details in the YouTube description |
