Transceivers by Purpose

There are a huge variety of radios we can use for packet transmissions. These can be subdivided in many ways.

Below are some automatically generated lists from information by our members.

GM340GM340 The Motorola GM340 can be configured as VHF or UHF at the factory and supports deviation suitable for 1200bd and 9600bd Prior Example MM0RFN is using a GM340 as the 9600bd/UHF port on GB7HIB. General programming advice from <https://www.bi7jta.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page#GM340.2FGM350.2FGM360> was followed, including connector definition.
Tait T2000II seriesTait T2000II series The Tait T2000 II series are an older generation of “PMR” radios that have become popular with Amateurs due to their availability, reasonable pricing and models available for the 70cms, 2m and 4m bands (Note they're single band only).
Tait TM8100 seriesTait TM8100 series The Tait TM8100 series are “PMR” radios that have become popular with Amateurs due to their excellent performance, modern architecture and flexibility. VHF models can often be picked up for £20-35 on eBay if you're patient. Unfortunately UHF models are difficult to come by and cost up to £125, but the occasional bargain is still out there.
Tait TM8200 SeriesTait TM8200 Series The Tait TM8XXX series are “PMR” radios that have become popular with Amateurs due to their excellent performance, modern architecture and flexibility. Many of the TM8200 series support MPT-1327 trunking and were often used by large organisations (Notably London Buses until a few years ago). They come up less frequently than their TM8100 counterparts, presumably due to stricter disposal practices - but they do come up now and again and can be programmed with conventional FM c…
Yaesu FT-8900Yaesu FT-8900 The FT-8900 is a ruggedly-built, high quality Quad Band FM transceiver providing 50 Watts of power output on the 29/50/144 MHz Amateur bands, and 35 Watts on the 430 MHz band. It includes features like cross-band repeat, dual receive, VHF-UHF Full Duplex capability, and over 800 memory channels.
Yaesu FT-991AYaesu FT-991A The FT-991A is all mode, all band MF/HF/VHF/UHF transceiver with C4FM (System Fusion) Digital capability. The FT-991A includes multi-mode operation on CW, AM, FM, SSB, and Digital Modes (Packet, PSK31, RTTY and C4FM), with 100 Watts of HF/50mhz Capability (50 Watts VHF/UHF).

Packet on IC7300Packet on IC7300 Robin M0JQQ has successfully run the IC7300 with NinoTNC. Robin M0JQQ reports: " Don't put the TNC too close to the IC7300 - it does not appear to like it! I had a short connecting lead and had lots of noise on the input to the opamp on the TNC with the TNC sitting on top of the radio
